ISLAND LODGE
LOCATION:
North Point, HK
AREA:
16,900 sqm
COMPLETION:
2008
CLIENT:
Swire Properties Ltd & Motor Bus co. Ltd

The Island Lodge project was a re-development project for a cluster of resident blocks of a bus company and it fully exemplified a new movement of residential redevelopment in the stage of this highly developed old district in Hong Kong Island.

The site was originally the residential quarters of the bus company and was located at the junction of Java Road and Kam Hong Street.  The site is immediately in front of the future development of North Point Estate and is in fact the interface between the new water front development and the old district of North Point.  The elevation design emphasizes the horizontality at typical floor levels while keeping a decent, simple and elegant tower top design.  Self-contained “duplex houses” are located at top floor where flat roofs are directly connected with living rooms, enabling full sea view towards the harbour.  Shops with super-high headroom are located at ground floor level to enhance the transparency of the shops.

The main residential entrance is set back from the main street, thus not only creating a space for the enjoyment of the feature wall but also exemplifying the highly transparent double volume foyer feature design.
